About Museum of Lake Minnetonka
Built in 1906, the Minnehaha was one of seven streetcar boats” operated by the Twin Cities Rapid Transit Company, designed to provide fast and reliable transportation for the tourists and residents of Lake Minnetonka. Rendered obsolete after the emergence of the automobile, in 1926 the Minnehaha was towed to deep water north of Big Island and deliberately sunk. However, in 1980 the boat was discovered, raised, and later restored by volunteers to her original glory. The Steamboat Minnehaha has since become an icon of Lake Minnetonka, providing public and private cruises from the cities of Excelsior and Wayzata since 1996.
