TMA is an independent organization and the voice for Minnesota tourism that answers only to its members. This enables TMA to lobby for issues in ways other organizations cannot. TMA carries the ideas and concerns of its members directly to the legislators.

Past lobbying efforts include tax credits for interstate trucks and several years of pressure for the Office of Tourism to be designated a separate department, which is now Explore Minnesota.
